Day 60: 313 Miles and Masks

Today is Day 60 of my daily walking challenge. I’ve walked 313 miles so far. I’ve been going at steady distance of 8 miles a day for the past 2 weeks, but today, I only walked 6 miles because I started out late, and wasn’t feeling well again.

I have a bout of headache every other Friday, which has been very annoying. I mentioned getting ill on this blog and Twitter before, and the pattern of “every other Friday or Saturday” seems to hold. It’s weird, because if it’s really my Methotrexate, I take it every week, so I don’t understand why I only get sick or have headaches every other week!

I don’t know if the feeling of “I don’t want to do this anymore” comes every few weeks, but I had a strong case of it few days this week, especially as I’ve been finding it more difficult to get up in the morning. I think I need to both go to bed earlier, and have less excitement at night (like video chatting with friends) so I can wake up earlier and also more refreshed.

After 10 Miles

I’m getting pretty close to my “10 miles a day” goal. Which means I have to make a decision on what to do once I hit that many miles in a day. It’s not very sustainable for me to walk 10 miles a day, because that will take me 3 hours. Already, I’m at around 2 hours and 20 minutes for my 8 miles, and it’s become a substantial time suck for me.

Once I get to 10 miles a day, I think I’ll maintain that for a week, and then go down to something like 6 miles a day, which should take me around an hour and a half to a little under 2 hours. Once I begin working on the 6 miles in earnest, and my body recovers from the exhaustion of walking 8~10 miles a day every day, I think I should be able to go back to walking 15 minute miles and completing the daily walk in an hour and a half.

Masks ?

Last Monday, on the day the “Stay at Home” Directive was announced for Maryland, I mailed out my stash of N-95 masks to a hospital in New York City in an attempt to do my small part in trying to help with the pandemic. I had purchased a box a few months ago before the Coronavirus was but a “new scary flu in China,” and we had maybe the first 5 cases in the United States.

Yesterday, I received a letter of appreciation from the hospital. I was thankful they reached out because I wasn’t 100% sure they received it. Which is all great, except that the donation left me without masks to use (I didn’t feel “right” about using N-95 masks for daily walks or going to the grocery stores when hospitals were in state of such need). After looking for over a week, I was finally able to locate a supplier that shipped me a box of surgical masks, for which I’m very thankful for. I’ll be receiving them tomorrow (hopefully).

Which apparently is going to come just in time, because my county announced that all shoppers will be required to wear masks (even if they’re just scarves) to go into stores beginning Monday!

I lost one of my only “normal” disposable face masks last week trying to sanitize it by placing it in boiling water. I do not recommend! ?
